To The Editor:

I sure am glad "The Council", that is what the majority members consider themselves, waited until after the, "Honoring special people" Pow-Wow, was over before they sent out their nasty memorandum. Listed on the top of this memo it says this is from the"Tribal Council" there are 12 names listed, but at the end of this informative memo it is only signed by 7? Was there a council meeting the other 5 did not know about, did the other 7 get paid for this meeting? Who authorized the payment of this mass-mailing political propaganda.I thought your policies and procedures prohibited the use of tribal facilities and working hours for political gain, of course you never followed that part of the policy last election year either, by filming your poltical ad on TV-6 during working hours, right in the tribal center. These are some of the questions 7 council members should be answering. I am also glad to see you printed "the minority runs to the white media, that is why we have the slow destruction of our sovereignty." I do believe a few of the 7 have expressed their opinions in the local paper and never thought twice when they were bashing tribal members, but we are supposed to sit back and keep quiet or like past council meetings its been sta ted, "shut up and sit down". The "solution" to this problem, check the minutes from previous council meetings, is to print out your own tribal newsletter, telling every member how you as a council are protecting our sovereignty, instead of mass-mailing excuses why you can't and blaming The L'Anse Sentinel for how things really are. That is one way "The Council" can "Honor All People" everyday, not just once year. Members should do exactly what the memo reads, call the tribal center and ask them why we don't have these rights, Am I setting my own political agenda? Your damn right I am!

Tribal Member Peter Goodreau #3109

Note: Don Carlson agreeded to drop this case in a agreement with the KBIC Tribal Council. The agreement included that Don Carlson would reinstated as a Tribal member.
